San Diego Employment Law Attorney Josh Gruenberg represented Masil “Butchie” Bugsch in her age discrimination case against Quest Diagnostics, Inc, a nationwide company specializing in medical testing. Ms. Bugsch worked for Quest for over 25 years when her supervisor Terry Kuzma Gottron began to harass her. Gottron ridiculed and humiliated Bugsch in sales meetings; she also took key accounts she’d had for many years.
Quest was represented by the Los Angles office of Reed Smith, a very large corporate law firm. It used a “scorched earth” policy against Bugsch and Gruenberg, and refused to make any settlement offer until shortly before trial when it offered $25,000.
The case went to trial. Bugsch was awarded $264,466.97 in damages, attorney’s fees and costs. It is believed the Defendant spent close to one million dollars defending the case.
